According to the South African Medical Journal, a 28-year-old South African suffered a rare case of “penile strangulation” after squeezing his wedding ring around his sex organ for “erotic reasons.” Apparently, the unnamed man tried to use the wedding ring as a replacement cock ring − a sex toy that holds blood in the penis to increase sexual response. The ring caused so much swelling of the man’s penis that he could not remove it. When the patient’s mother brought him to a Limpopo hospital four hours later, according to doctors, his penis was erect and blue.
First, doctors tried to cut off the ring with a tiny surgical saw, but that failed because, according to the paper, swelling made it hard to get close to the ring without causing further injury. Ultimately, doctors made multiple puncture aspirations to reduce swelling with a syringe and a pink needle. Antibiotics and pain killers were given to the patient, presumably with a strong suggestion not to do this again.
